Detroit’s swfestdetroit is celebrating 5 years in 2025! The community-organized festival returns on Saturday, August 23 at the Senate Theater from 12–10pm. 🎉☀️

Started in 2021, Southwest Fest has become one of Detroit’s can’t-miss events, created to elevate and platform local artists and the multiple diverse cultures that exist within Southwest Detroit.

The event is powered by a collective of young artists working through Garage Cultural garagecultural, a nonprofit arts and community organization founded in 2011 that works to uplift the Latin American roots of Southwest Detroit, and is made possible through countless hours of volunteer, neighbor, and community support.

This year’s festival features 50 musical acts and 100 vendors. Southwest Fest also curates one of the most intentional lineup of vendors at Detroit festivals every year, with tasty food, local artwork, and multiple community resources and organizations who are doing the work every day.🍴🎶🎨

The festival is open to all ages and this year features a special Kid Zone hosted by dulcedetroitchildcare1, ensuring that elders, families, and children all have a space to celebrate together.

Southwest Fest is rooted in community, collaboration, cultivation, and legacy. It links generations by honoring the stories and cultural fabric of the neighborhood, while also creating space for the next generation to lead and evolve the culture going forward.

What started with a small group wanting to come together after covid to fill a space in the arts and culture scene in Southwest has become a powerful example of what happens when artists, organizations, businesses, and neighbors collaborate to create a day of joy. 🧡

Who are you most excited to see perform at this year’s festival? Let us know in the comments!
