Detroit is the Black Music Capital of the World! 🌎🎶

June is Black Music Month. Join us and Detroit’s Ambassador of Sound and Swag DJ Killa $quid djkillasquid to celebrate by placing the spotlight on Detroit’s storied contributions to music across genres. 🏙️

From J Dilla to Motown and Techno, Detroit is rooted in a powerful legacy- one that’s part of a broader history of Black musicians who pioneered and created the genres that define American music, from jazz and gospel to house and hip-hop.

Detroit’s contributions run deep across them all, carried by generations of Black artists who continue to push the music forward. The sounds shaped here have also traveled the globe, setting trends and breaking records. Few cities can match the cultural reach of Detroit’s music and it’s a force that continues to influence artists worldwide.

If you’re a music fan, you need to visit Detroit to experience the culture! From live events to major festivals and more, there are so many ways to explore our Black music scene this month and beyond.
