Five summers ago, Mollie Tibbetts went on a run in Brooklyn, Iowa. She disappeared and never returned.

Friends and family posted "missing" posters on telephone poles. National news crews descended on small town Brooklyn, an hour east of Des Moines. Hundreds joined law enforcement officers in a hunt for the Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom High School grad who grew up running cross country and singing in the choir, and later attended the University of Iowa.

The 20-year-old was kidnapped and murdered by Cristhian Bahena Rivera after she left her boyfriend's house around 7:30 p.m. on July 18, 2018. Rivera led investigators to her body, hidden in a rural Poweshiek County cornfield, on Aug. 21.

To mark the fifth anniversary of her disappearance, Tibbetts' cousin Morgan Collum launched a summer challenge to run 100 "Miles for Mollie" in Tibbetts' honor.
