The Sports Bra (thesportsbrapdx) will host a watch party Friday at Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square for the U.S. women’s national team’s first group stage match of the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

The U.S. faces Vietnam, and the local event serves as a fundraiser for the youth soccer nonprofit Portland Community Football Club.

Portland Thorns stars Sophia Smith and Crystal Dunn lead USWNT in pursuit of a third consecutive World Cup title. That begins with their group stage opener against Vietnam in Auckland, New Zealand, at 6 p.m. PT on Friday. The match will air on Fox, Telemundo and Universo.

The Sports Bra’s watch party event starts at noon Friday and will feature a 2 p.m. screening of the classic soccer film “Bend It Like Beckham,” followed by a live stream of the USWNT game at 6 p.m. Food and drink options will be plentiful, including three local Vietnamese restaurants in HeyDay, Matta, and Mama Dut. Admission is free.
