For this week’s story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have @drlekvar & @yogaren ✨

"While neither one of us originally intended to go to Rutgers, it’s where we both ended up by a twist of fate. Bruce saw Rennie at the orientation two months before school started, and by some weird coincidence, Rennie had befriended a few people at orientation who ended up living in Bruce’s dorm (Quads on Livingston). While this didn’t forge a full friendship yet, we would stop and talk each time we ran into each other for the rest of that year. 

When Rennie decided to move into House 28 for sophomore year, the die was cast, and a true friendship started, although Bruce wanted more. One of our favorite memories includes dining at Tillet Dining Hall. Sophomore year, our dorm was so close, and we would always eat our meals together as often as possible. Sophomore year and on, we were the best of friends. Rennie did an extra semester because she had studied abroad her junior year and maintained contact by writing letters as it was pre-Internet! We kept our friendship and were 'best buddies' while Rennie finished that last semester and Bruce lived in New Brunswick off campus, entering the workforce. We met every week for dinner to catch up, and we remained constant in each others’ lives. 

Finally, on December 15, 1994, Rennie took her last final exam and asked Bruce to meet her for drinks. The two of us became a couple, and we have not looked back since. And even more critical, as Bruce had never officially proposed to Rennie (we got married in Las Vegas with no one present), after 22 years together, the most amazing thing happened. Bruce and Rennie went into town for a 'date night,' and as we walked through Vorhees Mall, Bruce got down on one knee right in front of Willie the Silent and retroactively proposed to Rennie, who in her utter confusion asked, 'What are you doing?' 

Without RU, nothing in our lives would be the same, and we are so grateful that the tiny twist of fate brought us together at Rutgers and for the rest of our lives."
