Program Spotlight: University of Georgia

The University of Georgia hockey team (@ugahockey) is a part of the newly founded D1 Division of the College Hockey South Conference and AAU College Hockey.

The team was established in 1987 and was a founding member of the SECHC, now CHS, in the 2008-09 season. The Ice Dawgs are 4-time conference champions (2016, 2017, 2019, 2022) and 9-time Savannah Hockey Classic champions, most recently in 2020. Georgia finished their 2022-23 season campaign with a 2nd-place finish in the previous east division, earning a spot in the conference playoffs where they finished in 4th place. The team also advanced to Nationals where they finished 3-0 in pool play, upsetting the #1 seed in overtime. The Ice Dawgs were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Georgia plays its home games at The Classic Center. The Ice Dawgs will soon call a new 5,500 seat arena home in Athens, GA. The team is excited to continue to reach new milestones in their first season as a D1 club program.

The University of Georgia also announced a new D3 team (@ugahockeyd3) for the upcoming 2023-24 season and also has a Women’s hockey team (@ugawhockey). The Women’s hockey team was established in 2021 and will be one of six teams spearheading the first ever Women’s collegiate hockey division in the south.
