Execs at companies with strong risk management practices are twice as likely to expect major revenue growth and five times more confident in their ability to deliver on outcomes, according to PwC. But leaders must establish a strong risk culture. That means equipping individuals, teams, and departments across the organization—not just in isolated risk functions—with the skills to recognize and evaluate risks.

Whether it’s prioritizing diversity in risk teams or consulting with risk expert early on, future-focused leaders are making risk part of the organizational DNA. Here are four tips for building that kind of culture from Arun Prakash Sharma, PMI-RMP, PMP, senior operations manager at ayuhealthofficial in Bengaluru:

1. Develop processes that proactively prioritize and address risks based on data.

2. Measure the impact of risk management to establish accountability.

3. Discuss risks openly so they’re front of mind for the project team—and the entire enterprise.

4. Create contingency plans (and budgets) for major disruptions. This isn’t a one and done. Risk management takes a “dynamic and flexible mindset,” says Sharma—which helps make orgs “more agile and responsive amid an unpredictable future.”
