For this week’s story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have Serena & Dexter ✨

"Without Rutgers, I would have never met the love of my life. We both came to Rutgers, not expecting much from our experiences there. I went on a few dates in the area, but no one clicked with me. I participated in various clubs and attended events at Rutgers over the past few years, but nothing happened. I was a year away from graduating and started to give up on love. 

On a whim, I joined a friend’s (who I met freshman year) Dungeons & Dragons campaign, where I met Dexter. His character was a 3-foot half-ing, a bard, and I was a 6-foot elf, a ranger. When our characters first met, we had the challenge of getting over a gigantic wall. Without hesitation, I chose to grab and toss him over. I failed by catapulting his character into the wall because I rolled a very low number. I was in denial of my feelings and thought he was way out of my league. I also thought he was too short for me. 

As months went by, we became closer as friends, and a one-second crush became an everyday crush. Little did I know, Dexter also had a crush on me. Though, I was way more apparent than he was. When we hung out, I couldn’t keep my eyes off him and was ecstatic the first time we hugged. He graduated Fall of 22”, and I still had two semesters left. I didn’t know if he still wanted to see me, but we both missed our little hangouts and game nights at Rutgers. I threw my shot one night after a party, and we’ve been dating ever since. 

Though I’ll be graduating soon, he might attend Rutgers for grad school to create more memories at the place we met. Maybe we’ll finally walk around Passion Puddle three times just for fun."
