During the hearing for the 2020 election interference case, the team of lawyers from special counsel Jack Smith's office, who will lead the prosecution, made their public debut. The former president pleaded 'not guilty' and was released on minimal conditions.

The charges against the former president include four counts: first, conspiracy to defraud the United States through dishonesty, fraud, and deceit, aiming to obstruct the process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results of the presidential election; conspiracy to impede the congressional proceeding that occurred on January 6; a conspiracy against the right to vote and the proper counting of those votes; and obstruction of the certification of the electoral vote.

The next hearing is set for August 28. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, experienced in January 6, 2021, litigation, will preside over the proceeding.
