## Caption

(Part 2 / 4) Madalitso lost both of his parents as a child, his mother when he was only 2 years old, and his father, four years ago, at the age of 13.  After his father’s passing, Madalitso and his older sister moved in with their paternal grandmother. 

As an elderly woman who earns a living brewing local beer to supplement her subsistence farming, Madalitso’s 78 year old grandmother was unfortunately not equipped to cover the expenses of caring for two growing teenagers and paying their school fees.  Madalitso’s sister dropped out of school in her first year of high school due to lack of school fees, and Madalitso, soon after, was forced to drop out in 7th grade to take up local farming work to support his grandmother and family. 

“Those were the darkest days of my life.  I lost all hope of ever going back to school. Despite my love for school, it had to take a backseat in my life,” Maladitso reflected somberly.
