• Sake is brewed, not distilled, and it is not in fact “rice wine,” despite common misconceptions 

• Sake is brewed in all of Japan’s 47 prefectures

• It can be enjoyed warm, hot, chilled, cold or at room temperature

• At the end of the 19th century Hawaii experienced a sake boom, with one Honolulu paper exclaiming, “the Hawaiians think it fine to get drunk at so cheap a cost,” and another, “[Sake] is the drink of the future.”
