Creating instruments for NASA is careful work. In this #ResearchSnapshot, UNHEOS researchers working in a clean room under ultraviolet light build a component called a collimator for NASA’s upcoming #IMAP mission. 

The collimator, a thin metal disk full of perfectly round tiny perforations, works like blinders on a horse, limiting the field of view so scientists can see only what they want to — in this case, particles from outside the #heliosphere, the magnetic bubble that surrounds and protects our solar system.

It’s just one of the components UNH is building for IMAP, which will launch in 2025. And IMAP is just one of the many missions of UNH’s long partnership with #NASA.
