Test 5: Sandbagger
After my awe inspiring performance in the Alpaca I dropped out of the top 10 and out of the top heat, which is never where I want to be. I had a chat with my wife and made a comeback plan for the rest of the weekend. It went something like this: after the next workout I need to be back in the top 10. By end of day, top 8. End of Saturday, too 5. And by the end of Sunday I’ll be in the top 3. No more room for major mistakes.
I stopped medical to get my fingers wrapped up to get ready for the next event. We were in the coliseum for the Ski Sandbag workout. The ideas of squeezing ski handles and digging my fingers into heavy bags didn’t thrill me, but it motivated to keep it clean and go unbroken because it was NOT about to do extra sandbag cleans.
This event was more fun and exciting than I expected. You couldn’t win it on the ski, but you didn’t want to waste much time at the start. Having so many transitions helped me stay focused, just 5 reps at a time, and made an exciting race. In the warm up area things felt a little slow, but then I watched @samuelkwant dummy the event and it lit the fire. I felt better on the floor. I got a couple of no reps throughout the workout for depth, but it was ok. The bag position makes squatting a little awkward and twisted so If i stood too wide I was getting borderline.
I played around in warm up, but decided to do all my reps on the right shoulder. It blew up my back on one side a bit but My shoulder position was more comfortable there and it was worth the trade.
In the end heat 3 was actually the place to be. We had 4 of the top 6 times out of our heat, so I got a little lucky on that one. I got caught at the end by a couple of athletes but came across with a solid enough time to reboot the comeback. I didn’t feel too wrecked, but man those last 5 squats were shakey!
After thé évent ended my coach noticed 3/10 lanes didn’t advance the bag to the last section and some people won tight races as a result. We appealed it, I was hoping to maybe pick up one more spot, but it was denied. Worth a try 🤷🏼‍♂️.
Overall happy with how this turned out and set me up for the evening back inside the top 10. On track.
