Are you a new teacher in the field of Visual Art, PreK-12? Or perhaps a veteran teacher looking to renew your artistic practice and develop new instructional units? This 3-credit course, approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, is perfect for you!

During this seminar, we will focus on exploring various strategies used in teaching art while delving into our own studio investigations for metaphors and themes. These personal explorations will then become the foundation for constructing engaging units of study.

Throughout the course, you will develop comprehensive unit materials that include extensive research on art and artists, the formation of elegant problems, experimentation with materials, creation of prototypes, design of teaching visuals, development of an assessment process and criteria, and the creation of a written unit plan with ideas for adapting the unit to different grade levels.

By the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to select and apply a wide range of strategies to explore form and materials, develop symbolic and academic language, and foster different ways of knowing and thinking in art.

Class meetings will be conducted online and will involve stimulating studio investigations, interactive presentations, engaging discussions, and collaborative group work. This format allows for flexible participation from anywhere, making it convenient for busy educators.
