Check it out DAV grad, Ally Balan '21, gives us some insight on her capstone award winning presentation: Standing Ovation: Broadway 🎭 Musicals Throughout the Years.

How did you first come across the idea for your Capstone Project? 
“While in the early stages of research, I learned that the Museum of Broadway is set to open in NYC in Summer '22. It will be the first-ever permanent museum dedicated to the lasting legacy of musicals, plays, and theaters. Inspired by this news, I wanted to create a visualization that could be displayed at the museum!”

What advice do you have for incoming students on how and when they should get started with their Capstone Idea? 
"Since the beginning of the program, I wanted to do a project on Broadway. Theater has always been a big part of my life and I wanted to do my Capstone Project on something I was truly passionate about. I would suggest keeping a running list of ideas you have for your Capstone Project from the beginning of the program. It's never too early in the program to start looking for datasets on a subject that interests you.”

Who were some industry mentors or advisors you looked up to for questions and/or advice?
"Tracy Sanders and Jes Standefer, my instructors for the Capstone course, were great resources for me when I found myself facing an obstacle during my Capstone Project. They provided support, inspiration, and encouragement. "
