Test 11: Pulling Through
We went from north field to the coliseum for the announcement of the last two tests. My hands felt bad, mentally it was taking it’s toll. After the ring muscle ups I was relieved because we had basically done every hanging/pulling movement in the books, so surely my hands were about to get a break. Then we stepped onto the coliseum floor. Sled rope pulls. You’re kidding me… 🤦🏼‍♂️
Gripping a rope is what tore my hands up so it goes without saying, that wasn’t a comfy hand position for me. combined with squeezing the heavy rope and I was gonna be bitting my lip most of this one.
Coming off the floor I notice @roman_khrennikov on crutches and we heard he fractured his foot in the last test. I didn’t know what this would mean moving forward, but I got choked up hearing it. It’s every athletes nightmare and not how anyone wanted the weekend to unfold.
We didn’t have any sleds or P bars in the back for this one so we were all kinda winging it. By the end of the weekend nobody wants to warm up anyways😂. The only equipment we had in the back was the sled clip to practice un clipping and clipping the sled 🙄
The workout was a lot of transitions, so having a well rehearsed pattern and just turning your brain off was ideal. I’m pretty good at that kind of workout so I felt confident.
During the workout the hardest part was managing equipment on your platform. After the sled pull you’d have to toss the rope to one side, which might also have your neighbors rope, and make enough room to skip and vice versa. The grip definitely got crushed. I switched my rope pull strategy to longer lay back pulls as my arms wore out, and probably should have done that from the start. About half way through my tape had peeled back and I was raw fingers bleeding on the rope. I chalked quickly a few times in the back half to keep some grip and couldn’t quite catch old @fikowski . But he was a great guy to be next to.
The workout flew by and it was my favorite one of the weekend. Super fun. Once we finished we all sat at the finish watching Roman defiantly push on, making it clear he intended to take the floor with us for the remainder of the competition.
One more.
