#5: We begin on the Jersey shore back in October of 2012,  where Sandy made landfall as the largest Atlantic tropical system on record. The price tag for Sandy, almost 86 billion.

#4: Number four on the list takes us to the northern Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. That's where Hurricane Maria made landfall as a strong category four hurricane killing nearly three, 3000 people. The price tag for Maria $111.6 billion.

#3: Number three on the list is Hurricane Ian which slammed the Southwest Florida coast in 2022 with a nearly 20 ft storm surge in the Fort Myers Beach area. More than 150 people were killed in the US and entire towns were underwater for weeks across the Florida Peninsula. The price tag for Ian, more than 150 $15 billion.

#2: Number two on the list takes us to the Texas coast. That's where Hurricane Harvey set up shop in August of 2017. The storm sat over southeast Texas for days, putting the entire city of Houston underwater. Some locations reported up to 60 inches of rain. It was a year's worth of rain in just three days. The price tag for Harvey $155 billion and the number one cost us hurricane in history.

#1: Hurricane Katrina, which in October of 2005 caused unimaginable flooding along the central Gulf coast in New Orleans. Lake Ponchartrain dumped out onto the city, killing more than 1000 people. The water was as high as 20 ft in some parts of the city and people who were on their rooftops were swept away by the water. The price tag for Katrina $193.8 billion.
