From left, Bhante Piya, Bhante Sasana, Bhante Ratanapala, Bhante Pemaratana and Thich Linh Quang conduct a water peace ceremony to celebrate the ninth annual Vesak gathering — also known as Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day — along the Allegheny River on Sunday. Vesak celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of the historical Bhudda, marked with a bathing of a statue of the baby Bhudda, formal offerings, and a procession to the river, where the blessed water is dropped into the tributary to join with the rest of the water flowing throughout the rest of the world.
