On Independence Day, a group of artists and activists wrote pro-immigrant, anti-incarceration messages in over 80 locations — including immigration detention facilities, jails, courts and the U.S./Mexico border. Here are a few from Southern California:⁣
⁣
1. The words "No Cages No Jaulas" appear over downtown LA. The message was designed by the artist Beatriz Cortez. (Image: Dee Gonzalez, In Plain Sight)⁣

2. The words "Care, not cages" are viewed from the Griffith Observatory in LA. The activist Patrisse Cullors had them flown over the city's Men's Central Jail. (Image: Chris Mastro, In Plain Sight)⁣

3. The artist Marcos Erre Ramírez had the words "Soy Nube De Esperanza," or "I Am A Cloud Of Hope," flown over the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego near the U.S. border with Mexico. (Image: Sandy Huffaker, In Plain Sight) #losangelescalifornia #californiaforall
