Nanobubbles have the ability to improve sequestration of nitrogen and phosphorus in lakes. This is important because having too much of these nutrients can lead to a problem.

When there's an excess of nutrients, water quality is reduced and problems like excessive algae and muck increase. In addition to removing oxygen from the water, this overgrowth can harm fish and other aquatic creatures.

This whole situation is called eutrophication, and it can seriously harm the balance of entire ecosystems.
