This is one of the wildest roles in college football.

Imagine your job is to run 120 yards across a field with an animal that can kill you in front of fifty thousand screaming people once per week.

I’m talking about the Ralphie Handlers: the folks who handle Colorado’s live bison mascot.

I’m going to run through three insane stories about this Boulder tradition including one when she got loose.

Before I do, if you want an easier way to make money in college football than running with a Bison, check out Prize Picks and use my code “ADAMB” for a $100 deposit match — link in bio.

First — The current Ralphie, Ralphie six, was partly raised by a beef cow after it was orphaned.

Second story isn’t a story — It’s a fact.

Ralphie isn’t a buffalo.

She’s an American Bison.

Buffalo don’t exist in North America. We only have bison.

Last story, Ralphie V did get loose at a spring game in 2008.

She slipped out of her harness, and ran some dude over, but miraculously, he’s not seriously hurt.

I have to say it.

I’m a Ralphie fan now.

I get it.
