MEET THE E-BOARD: EMILY SWEENEY - CHAIRWOMAN

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to the executive board of the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network. You’ll get to know who they are inside and outside of the organization before you get to meet them on campus in the fall! 

We’ve made it to the final post of this series, where we’ll be introducing Emily Sweeney, our organization’s first-ever chairwoman. It’s impossible to fit everything that our chairwoman does into one Instagram caption, but the easiest way to sum it up is to say that she oversees the organization as a whole.

Year: 3+1 Senior
Major: Journalism
Minors: Sports Studies, Theater Studies, and Media Studies
Master’s Degree: Sports Journalism

Favorite QBSN Memory: My favorite QBSN memory was the first game I ever got to do color commentary for. I got put on a volleyball call a day before the game as a replacement and I knew this was going to be my opportunity to both show the broadcast managers my skills and prove to myself that I could do it as well. I was on the call with Andrew White, who was the top volleyball broadcaster at the time, and although we had to call the game virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a great experience. He gave me more confidence in my broadcasting abilities by telling me how natural I was at it and how I prepped so well that I knew things even he didn’t even know. That experience definitely solidified my dreams!

Fun Fact: I’m the president of QU’s student chapter of the Association for Women in Sports Media…I am also a huge NY Jets Fan! J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!

Advice for New Students: Get involved in every aspect of QBSN. Whether it is writing game previews and recaps or writing for the magazine or broadcasting a game or doing social media or taking a shot at photography, every single skill is important and it also makes you much more versatile!
