⬇️ everything you need to know to onsen like a local ⬇️

♨️Japanese onsens are natural hot springs found all over Japan, they are a major part of Japanese traditions and cultures, therefore it’s important to be respectful. 
♨️strip down to the suit your mama gave you, no clothes allowed!

♨️most onsens are divided by gender, the one in the video is actually coed

♨️ leave everything in the locker room but the small towel you’ll be given

♨️ upon entering you’ll see small stools in front of showers. You MUST bathe thoroughly with soap before entering the pools 

♨️all onsens are different, but many have hot and very hot pools, a sauna, and a cold plunge for post sauna

♨️ give yourself a quick rinse after the sauna before cold plunging

♨️ traditionally tattoos are forbidden in the onsen, but many are becoming more lax with the rules. If you are concerned about it, I’d suggest bookingta private onsen experience

♨️always be respectful in the onsen. No loud talking, splashing, swimming, etc

♨️ do not let your hair down in the onsen or your small towel 

♨️give yourself a quick wipe down before entering back into the changing areas
