I still remember going to training camp in Mankato your first year of trying out for the team as an undrafted free agent. I stopped by a thrift store on my way to buy a football and asked you to sign it when I saw you, to which you responded with a laugh because at that time it seemed silly for someone to request your autograph. The following year I was able to photograph camp for a day. My first time getting to shoot professional sports. I spent most my time taking pictures of the kid I used to play football with in the back yard who was now on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. Probably the only photographer aiming their camera at a then mostly unknown name “Adam Thielen”. I remember having to order a custom Vikings jersey because they didn’t sell yours in stores. When you would see a #19 jersey in the stands or at a bar, it was an easy conversation starter because you knew that person was either from Detroit lakes or knew you personally.
A once unknown name turned into a Minnesota legend.
For almost a decade ur name has been worn on the backs of thousands of fans on any given Sunday. Ur name holds records that others will chase after for years to come. Ur name has been cheered for and yelled by announcers. Ur name has been signed on thousands of items. Ur name has been given to your wife and passed down to your kids. Adam, your name has become a legacy that will forever be engrained in Minnesota.
I am so grateful to have been able to capture parts of this journey in Minnesota because I am beyond proud of you! Although this is a hard pill to swallow, I know God has so much for you and your family in this next chapter. 💜
