Grab your peanuts. 🥜 Bake your ham. Dust off your bust of George Washington. It's #NationalVirginiaDay, y'all.

We'll take any and every opportunity to celebrate Virginia here at Dogwood. Sept. 14 memorializes Virginia becoming the 10th state to ratify the US Constitution.

Cool, that's the day Virginia ratified the US Constitution, right? ❌ Er, no. Virginia ratified on June 25, 1788, after 25 days of heated debate.

So, what is the significance of Sept. 14 in Virginia?

The truth is, there's absolutely nothing historical about that date that makes it National Virginia Day. In 2017, the National Day Calendar celebrated each state in the order they entered the Union. The celebrations begin each year on the week of Independence Day and continue every week throughout the fiscal year, ending with Hawaii. As the 10th state, Virginia's national day fell on Sept. 14, using the calendar's weekly method.

Either way, Sept. 14 is a great day to enjoy the Old Dominion State. Virginia's got beaches, mountains, and everything in between. We're the nation's birthplace, the creators of country music, and the "Mother of Presidents." We've got festivals, flea markets, and roadside farmers' stands. And, of course, lovers.

What do you plan to do to celebrate National Virginia Day?
