Most people don’t realize this but…..

being a black woman in sports you have to work THREE times as hard.

Not to just get a job in sports but to keep elevating in the sports industry.

Disclaimer: some of you may get mad about the truth I’m about to share but if the shoe fits, wear it 😘

🤎 We have to work EVEN harder to prove we know sports and deserve to be in the industry

🤎 We have to have outstanding resumes and referrals to even be considered because we can’t rely on nepotism and our families playing golf with the owner to get hired

🤎 We have to conform to the women around us and are scared to bring our natural selves to work.

🤎 We are forced to remain silent because speaking up can be deemed DISRESPECTFUL or categorized as an angry black woman.

🤎 We have to show up as our best selves daily and be nearly perfect at every project and assignment fearing that our days are numbered or our spot can be taken by a peer.

🤎 We are often times in debt working in sports and chasing our career goals because we don’t have family support to help us make ends meet with how little we are paid

I could go on and on and on but I hope you get the picture.

I’m not saying this for you to pity me.

I’m not saying this for you to pat me on the back.

I’m saying this to tell you to:

- stop judging books by their cover
- stop assuming you know someone’s backstory when you probably don’t even have the table of contents correct
- If you are in a position of power start looking around your office and actually seeing the people you work with and find ways to support them
- if you are in a position of power start putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and doing something about some of the things I mention

To all my black and brown girls, I love you, you are seen and heard.

Keep grinding, believing in God and showing up as your authentic self.

Never shrink for anyone, anything or any role 🤎
