Has Alabama lost its status as the premier program in college football?

They lost to Texas.

They looked bad against an unranked, out-of-conference opponent for the first time in over a decade.

And struggled in the first half vs Ole Miss.

I thought I’d do some research to see if the dynasty in Tuscaloosa is done.

First thing I looked at just to be sure is recruiting.

For top teams like Alabama, you have to check their blue chip ratio.

For context — that’s the ratio of four and five-star recruits vs. non-four and five-star recruits in their recruiting class.

Alabama leads the nation with a 90% blue chip ratio.

So now it comes down to the transfer portal and NIL.

This summer there were rumors that North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye and Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke were considering Alabama.

At the end of the day, that’s Bama’s weak spot right now.

They’re behind on NIL and like a lot of top programs, they’re not embracing the portal.

Their talent will sustain them for a while.

But not forever.
