Throwing it back a "few" years and remembering the girl I was then.
.
Perhaps others saw me differently than I saw myself. But what I remember is a sometimes shy, but mostly happy girl who loved to dance and enjoyed making people smile and laugh. Desperate to be liked and hopeful for a boyfriend, yet not at the cost of my values. I didn't drink, attended few parties, yet loved to be social. Most weekend nights after games were spent with a couple of close friends, out for dinner and then back to one of our houses to watch movies.

I didn't realize it then, but I see now that I was a strong and focused young girl. I didn't know what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I knew I wanted to "help people". I just didn't know how.
.
I was a bit lost and very insecure, like most teens. I often felt like I was missing out by not attending parties. I knew it minimized my chances of having a boyfriend. I was often quite lonely in that aspect. Yet never enough to go against what I felt was right for me.
.
Somewhere between then and now, I lost some of the commitment to myself. I bent and molded who I was to meet the needs and expectations of loved ones. To the point I no longer recognized who I was.
.
There is a BIG difference between compromising who is going to make dinner or take out the trash and compromising yourself. For years, I compromised myself. I lost myself.
.
But I found her again. And I love her.
.
I know who I am. I am comfortable with who I am. And I am unwilling to compromise the core being of WHO I am, for anyone else.
.
I find myself walking the line of my same core values again. But with more fervor. More fierceness. More focus. I feel more free than I ever have. More loved. More me.
.
And what could be better? ♥️
