Once people have failed us, broken our hearts, and left us feeling abandoned, our inclination is to put up big f*cking walls around our hearts. 
We think this is our way to peace, protection, to be pain free, and the most direct way to our healing. 
And we couldn't be more wrong. 
The walls keep us from connecting and feeling more love. They don't eliminate the pain or prevent us from ever feeling it again. They isolate us.

We are meant to be open and vulnerable. We are wired for connection and love. Our hearts meant to be shared. 
It isn't easy. Fear of hurting causes us to hide behind these walls, wearing suits of armor, feigning our belief that the walls will keep us whole. 
The armor and walls keep the pain IN. They surround us with it and prevent us from the healing. 
The only way back to our whole and healing hearts is through the courage to love and to be loved. Both ourselves and others. 
Beautiful ones, your hearts are lonely and aching to connect. Take off your armor. Lay down your swords. Remove the walls to your hearts, brick by brick. 
It doesn't mean you won't ever feel pain again, but I assure you, the pain will lessen, and it will be set free. 
As Maya Angelou says, "Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time."
