## Caption

There are over 200,000 American alligators in the @evergladesnps and over 1.5 million in Florida.

They are definitely one of the cooler animals you can find roaming the Everglades and Big Cypress Preserve. You can find them sunbathing on the side or lurking in the murky waters of the swamps. They make for excellent photo subjects as they glide through the tall grass. 

A common misconception is that they attack people, they don’t. Unless you provoke them or threaten their young, so don’t. That being said don’t let small children or dogs near them, if you can pick it up a gator can pull it down. 

One of the problems the gators and many of the animals in the park face is the frowning python and snake problem. Over the years the Burmese python population has been invading the wetlands and eating many of the birds and small gators.
