I'd like to take a moment to pause and make a statement as the owner of my business.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

As the day of George Floyd's death gets further away, as more change is made, as police are being brought to justice & news cycles change, as we post other content on social media, I want to say this:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
I submit myself to my community to be held accountable for continuing this work in the months and years to come. I truly believe we need to be in this for the long-haul. This is a movement and I'm committed to not letting this be simply a moment.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

What does that look like?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
As the owner of Taylor Prinsen Photography, I will:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- Set up monthly recurring donations to Black nonprofits (@aclu_nationwide, @naacp , @campaignzero, @austinjusticecoalition as of 6/9/20).⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- Commit to reading at least 5 books for the rest of the year about the Black experience written by Black authors (currently "How to Be an Antiracist by @ibramxk ).⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- Continue having these conversations re: white privilege/systemic racism with friends and family + continue to be challenged and willing to change my beliefs & behavior when approached by POC.⁣⁣

- Continue to #AmplifyMelanatedVoices on social media as I post work of my own.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- Actively engage in shifting my clientele from primarily white to a more diverse & inclusive community.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

- Continue to reach out to local Austin officials, voting out leaders who don't hold police accountable & are not committed to racial equity in our city.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

This is just the start. I don't believe 2 weeks of revolution are enough to change 400 years of systemic racism in America. I have showed up very late to this conversation. I have a lot more work to do, both internally and in the community. I will fight for you, POC. White friends: when you see me not fighting, I want you to be the first to keep me accountable. Our Black friends have enough on their minds right now. It's time we are on the front lines.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
