In this week’s installment of Masked and Answered, Chase Mandell, a political science major from Cleveland, Ohio, shares the role his professors have played in helping him adjust to virtual learning and his hopes for a post-pandemic future:

“My professors have helped me tremendously throughout all of this. They have been super understanding, and they recognize that we are in unprecedented times, so they have been great about making adjustments to help us get through it. That has been really helpful as we all adjust to this new virtual environment. My professors have even been able to offer office hours either over Zoom or socially distanced in person, which is great because we can still meet and get to know them. I utilized my math office hours a lot last semester, and it was so helpful even though it was over Zoom. It was still a great way to connect with them one-on-one and still feel connected to that classroom environment, and I really appreciate that.” 

“We’re so close to the end of this pandemic with the creation of the vaccines and all of these new treatments coming out. We just have to hold out to the end. And until we get there, I want to do all that I can to protect my professors, my peers and all of the staff at Vanderbilt. It’s so important that we keep following these safety protocols through to the end. We’re at a time where there’s actually hope on the horizon, so we need to just keep holding out until then and eventually things will be good again.” – Chase Mandell, #VU2024
