Q: What made you choose your majors?⁣
A: I’m actually pre-dental. Ever since middle school I’ve wanted to be a dentist. I thought I was going to have to rely on biology, chemistry, all of the sciences... and then what I found out about Vanderbilt was that they had the Medicine, Health & Society program, which I think is a pretty good combination between all of the sciences but also the public health or social side of healthcare. So that’s what pulled me toward MHS - the fact that I could fulfill my pre-reqs for dental school but also take classes I’m a little more interested in too. As for Spanish – I’ve been taking it since middle school and I think it is super helpful for any profession, not even just medicine, but I knew if I continued Spanish it would help me with a lot of my patients that I hope to serve when I am a dentist.⁣

Q: What do you enjoy most about being President of the Black Student Association?⁣
A: I enjoy the relationships I get to make with a lot of the community – I try to get to know people on a more personal level. I remember when I first came to Vandy I joined BSA and I made so many upper classmen friends, I met people in the BCC, I met faculty. So now being president of the BSA, those connections and relationships I get to build with people across campus – that is the greatest thing.⁣

Q: What does Black History Month mean to you?⁣
A: I think BHM is really a time to celebrate. Of course we have a very long way to go, especially with our political climate, campus climate – not that there aren’t a lot of changes that need to be made, but I think BHM is a time where you should celebrate how far we have come as a people. Even people not that far behind us – the work that they’ve done to get us where we are. We should be proud of our history and be proud of where we are now.⁣
