First-year Noah Reckhorn is excited for all the research opportunities available on campus. #HumansofVanderbilt #VU2023 
Q: What made you choose Vanderbilt?
A: I first came to Vanderbilt for a summer program called VSA two years ago, and I really fell in love with the school and with the city. All the people here were so nice and so friendly, and the campus is beautiful with the historic red bricks and the greenery. The academics are incredible and there’s so much opportunity for research, which is my biggest passion. 
Q: What experience at Vanderbilt has been the most impactful so far?
A: I took a political science class as my liberal arts core, despite not typically being interested in a class like that. I do love the class though and it gives me such a different perspective on the world that I wouldn’t get from my other classes.

Q: What are you involved with in campus?
A: So far I’ve been involved with the Maker Club, which is a movement that’s aiming to give students of any skill level the opportunity to get in and start being able to build things with their hands, which is the kind of thing I never really had access to in high school. I’m also a part of the Design Studio, which is a similar opportunity giving students a space to build almost anything they want with no restrictions. I’m also aiming next semester to get involved with volunteer work through VSVS, an org that allows you to go out to local middle and high schools in the community and teach the kids there about science as well as share your passions for science.

Q: If you could say something to the Instagram followers, what would it be?
A: No matter what college you go to (but especially at Vanderbilt), you should use your college time as a time to focus on your academics but also to rediscover who you are. There are many available opportunities here to find something that you love, so I definitely recommend getting involved with many things on campus and narrowing it down to what you’re most passionate about.
