Q: What do you do on campus?
R: I’m at the EBI building. My position here is the Cook 6, so basically taking care of all the students and being the overhead over it all - making sure everything is going to function.
L: I have the same job title, senior cook, and all the above he mentioned.

Q: What brought you to Vanderbilt?
R: I was here because at one point I went to school for working on cars, but then I found a passion for cooking. I started out at the lower bottom of it, but then found my way into the passion of cooking, and finding something that I actually love. I enjoy it, cooking all different varieties of food just about every day for the students.
L: I used to work at Publix, and I worked there for about 12 years cooking. Then, I left there and a friend got me on over here. I’ve been here about six years.

Q: What’s your favorite part of working at Vanderbilt?
R: Getting to meet all of the new students, just about every year, and making different meals just about all day. It’s one of my favorite things to do, and the interaction of it all.
L: I’d have to say the same. The people, that’s the best part of it, and then the excitement of cooking.

Q: What’s something that you’ve done in your career that you’re super proud of?
R: The promotion. I’m proud of myself for coming all the way that I have come, from what I came to Vanderbilt and started with. I’m proud of myself for doing that and actually raising the bar a little bit.
L: I’d say about the same. Just the whole learning process and how to make all of the foods and working my way up the ladder as far as cook and then senior cook, and hopefully sous chef or chef at some point.

Q: What’s something that students wouldn’t guess about you?
R: I like playing the guitar, and then working on cars. That’s my little hidden talent besides cooking food.
L: They probably wouldn’t know that I’m a musician and I do photography and other art stuff.
