Posse scholar Beatrice Mhando loves Vanderbilt’s dynamic campus. #HumansofVanderbilt #VU2022

Q: What made you choose VU?
A: I learned about Vanderbilt through the @possefoundation program, and I applied through Posse. I really liked the way that they presented the school to me. It’s a very beautiful campus and the fact that it provides a lot of majors and flexibility for students to change around whatever they want to - the support that you get from moving from one place to another and being able to find your own way is what I really love about Vanderbilt.

Q: What is your favorite part about VU?
A: I really love the community. There are so many things that are going on around campus and you get to meet new people and have new experience and Vanderbilt always actively tries to bring you to events. Especially freshman year - they’re like “Go to this” and “Go to that” so you can learn all these things that are going on on campus. And the friends that I’ve made here on campus are really the greatest support system that I’ve ever received.

Q: What has been your favorite class that you’ve taken here?
A: My favorite class is a class that I’m currently taking. It’s called “Rhetoric and Civic Life,” and we’re basically looking at rhetoric and talking about how people use it in daily life. I think what I find really interesting about it is the way the professor asks us to talk about the articles or the readings that we do. The professor is really great and what really makes the class great.

Q: What’s something you wish other people knew about Vanderbilt?
A: I think it just relates to college in general, that it’s gonna be hard, and you’re going to find a lot of difficulties, but I think that what Vanderbilt is really great at is helping you come to terms with what you want to be and who you want to be and how you want to define yourself. When you come to Vanderbilt, you’ll definitely figure that out throughout your freshman year.
