Project SEARCH students recently had the opportunity to tour Vidant Health’s Marketing & Communications in-house studio, to put their video production and on-air talents to the test! This experience is one of many provided by the Project SEARCH program, which Vidant Medical Center (VMC)—in partnership with organizations across eastern North Carolina—hosts for exceptional Pitt County students. The Project SEARCH program at VMC began in 2015 through partnerships with Pitt County Schools, RHA Health Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, and NC Council on Developmental Disabilities. Project SEARCH is an international transition program that provides real-life work experiences to high school graduates with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The one-year program helps students learn various job skills to help them gain employment after graduation. Completing the program allows students to transition into the workforce through career and skill development and a customized job search in the program's second half. Students also complete internships in various departments at VMC. These include, but are not limited to: Central Services, East Carolina Heart Institute Cafeteria, the Main Cafeteria, Endoscopy Center, Grounds, Environmental Services and the Neuroscience Intermediate Unit.
