In Louisiana, it appears the answer is punishment, criminalization, and incarceration. ⁠
⁠
For Black children across the country, and especially Black children in New Orleans, genuine opportunity to be a child is stripped away. Orleans Parish School System has reported that 60% of their students have PTSD, and in Louisiana as a whole, our Black youth are six times more likely to be incarcerated than white youth. ⁠
⁠
Part of being a child is having the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and be granted the ability to learn and move forward. #JusticeIs allowing children to be children and not denying them the ability to thrive because of developmentally normal behavior. ⁠
