One day, while taking a leisurely walk, Linda, the Founder and President of Bow Seat, stumbled upon the idea for the 2023 Ocean Awareness Contest theme: "Climate Heroes in Action." It was a simple, yet powerful notion that emerged from her growing concern about the emotional toll climate change news was taking on today's youth.

We have all observed the constant inundation of bleak reports about climate change, which was leading to rising levels of eco-anxiety and despair among young people. She felt that amidst all this, there was a need for a different narrative—one that highlighted the positive and inspiring stories of everyday individuals who were actively implementing innovative climate solutions.

"I thought Climate Heroes in Action would be an uplifting and inspirational theme," Linda remarked, reflecting on her epiphany. "I imagined that teens would feel more optimistic and encouraged knowing about all the great work that everyday people are doing to tackle the climate crisis. There is an astonishing, though often uncelebrated, movement out there that needs to be recognized, where people are taking action and developing powerful solutions in their towns and local communities."

In this unassuming moment during her walk, Linda Cabot had found a way to bring a sense of hope and motivation to the younger generation. Her idea was a modest yet impactful shift in perspective, offering a more balanced narrative amid the doom and gloom of climate change discourse. It was a theme that aimed to shine a spotlight on those unsung heroes, the individuals who, through their determination and innovative spirit, were making a real difference in the world's fight against climate change.

Today, as we conclude the survey of the Contest, here’s what we learn about the impact of the Contest. Click the link in our bio to read the blog
