The Bagnell Dam, holding back the Osage River, is the reason Lake of the Ozarks exists. Built in 1931, the Bagnell Dam has a capacity up to 215 megawatts and powers 42000 homes. At the time of the dam's completion, Lake of the Ozarks was the largest man-made lake in the US and one of the largest in the world.
