The boy from Smithfield who landed in London aged 15, eager to kick ball, take on wingers & put Australia on the map.

His name is Harry Kewell. Australia’s first proper star boy. 

A Winger by trade, Harry landed in England aged 15 alongside brettemerton looking to make football his career. He ended up at Leeds who at the time were a top 4-6 team who had the cash. Almost the equivalent of a modern day Newcastle if you will.

He played ball & eventually earned a move to Merseyside. Here would be his glory years. He’d win a Champions League Medal, FA Cup and simultaneously be part of the Socceroos golden set up who truly were a threat at the 2006 World Cup. To name drop, he’d play alongside icons of the game like Stevie G, Djibril Cisse & Xabi Alonso at this time.

After this, he’d find himself at Galatasaray. He’d win another piece of silverware in the Turkish cup and eventually return home after a few years.

It’s honestly hard to predict wether we’ll ever see another Harry. The level he maintained as a Creative Outlet in the most physical of leagues is something so little manage to replicate. 

What he did for Australian Football during a time where we didn’t even have a national league is nothing short of legendary. Proper Star Boy.
