In 2017, Jason Taumalolo was one of the biggest stars in Rugby League.

Breaking records, signing 10 year deals & making a grand final put him into the super stardom. So naturally when the World Cup came around - everyone assumed he’d represent NZ. 🇳🇿

Jason, out of seemingly nowhere announced his intention to play for & captain Tonga. 🇹🇴❤️‍🔥

At the time, it was of course met with mainstream media criticism. However, the people felt a general relief. 

Finally, fkn finally someone had decided to challenge the Big 3 narrative of Rugby League.

Tonga may have fell agonisingly short of a World Cup Final birth, however there brothers Samoa didn’t miss in 2021. 🇼🇸

What was once a shocking call is now a standard where we have some of the greatest names in the game representing their heritage & spiritual home. It’s a beautiful sight & I cannot wait to see how far the Pacific Islands can go in the future. This is truly the beginning.
