2022 Renew Art Project > 810 Notre Dame Ave. > mandy_vanleeuwen X westendbiz > I actually painted this piece last summer for the Renew Art Project, but I’m really happy to see the piece up finally up in it’s new home in the West End. Hopefully it integrates into the community well and makes a positive impact as intended. It was really great to be part of the exhibition and paint along side so many talented artists. Thanks again Mandy and crew for installing this piece and for including me in this project.

Untitled - Based on the theme of “Renew” I took an approach of renewing your mind and seeing things in a different perspective. Using simple shapes, the design is based on my interpretation of an abstract urban landscape while drawing inspiration from neighbourhood blocks, crosswalks, streets, sun/moon and the shadows casted by buildings. This is my first flat painted murals in almost two decades, but I still wanted to create depth and movement. The simple relief shaded elements add depth and help to support the idea of perspective. The colours were chosen to be bold and high contrast to specifically help to draw people into the exhibit from a distance and create awareness and intrigue. These pieces are intended to eventually be installed on building around town, so hopefully this one finds a place where it shines bright and adds renewed life to the area. Hope y’all dig it. ✌🏾
