With what I have seen this summer, it is crazy how some of these content teams covering grassroots hoops are out here celebrating their out of focus and poorly exposed/composed still and moving visuals and are more concerned with clout chasing than what they are creating. It’s why their visuals are pedestrian and will continue to be that way. I just want to create and at the highest level possible and there is no off switch. This pursuit is relentless. For the brands and the creatives that partner with me and those I work with, this is how we roll. For instance, when I am at an event with basketball courts next to an arcade in the host facility and I see an opportunity for a portrait present itself I have to find a way to make something happen. Recognize the light (or the background) and then arrange the variables to solve the problem.

As soon as I saw this scene in the arcade, I knew that the new NikonUSA 85mm f1.2 would absolutely eat. So with that on a Z9, I set off to make this portrait aware of how buttery the background would be thanks to that wide open aperture. However, when I run up the shutter speed, the cycling of the lights became very apparent. And very colorful. So I ran it up higher and shot exactly for that and what was originally going to just be a static portrait became an insane gif. Time spent shooting was less than 30 seconds.
