A Champagne Bureau, USA press release informed me that Global Champagne Day occurs this Friday, Oct. 27. In a “food holiday” calendar littered with everything from International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day to National Mole Day, a day dedicated to Champagne is something writer Michael Alberty can get behind.

Global Champagne Day coincides with Alberty's birthday, which is a nice touch. To celebrate, he asked Andrew Turner at Valley Wine Merchants in Newberg to select a splurge bottle, a great “bang for the buck” and a nice half-bottle. He'd like to share his suggestions with you.
