I’ll feature 10 creators who try it, instructions below

I’ve been experimenting with 3D scans for the last two years and a frustration I’ve always had is that you need to depend on a friend to help scan you. But a new method called “gaussian splatting” just came out- it’s more detailed than NeRFs and looks great on closeups. So I wondered... could this actually work as a selfie?

My first few attempts turned out blurry, but then I experimented with different camera settings, poses, and arm paths. After a bunch of testing, here are my tips -

TIPS
1. Make sure your face is perfectly still for the entire clip. Trim out any movement in the beginning/end of your clip
2. Focus on a distant object to avoid a cross-eyed look. Or wear 😎
3. Accessorize to add dimension to your face 👒🧢🎧👓🕶️
4. Use your phone’s default front or back camera. Avoid cinematic mode or wide-angle lenses
5. Upload the clip to luma_ai app (Shooting within the app doesn’t work well for this technique)
Make sure the upload is set to private if you don’t want it to be public 

COMMON PROBLEMS
- If you look blurry - it’s probably because you moved slightly. It’s hard to stay perfectly still and took me a few attempts to get it right. For a cleaner scan, consider asking a friend
- If you get the the “reconstruction failed” error message - it may be because your face got cropped at some point in the video. For a cleaner scan, ask a friend to help you :)

ANDROID USERS
- Use the web app (lumalabs.ai) on Android. Upload footage and screen record the result in the browser
