Today is National Day of Writing or #WhyIWrite. "Why I Write" is very simple for me: it's the easiest way for me to communicate and I feel more at ease when I write. I can collect my thoughts easier.

Six years ago, it was easier for me to write little notes to my daughter who was then in the fourth grade and struggling to adjust to a new school. She may not listen to WHAT I say, but if she READS what I wrote her, then maybe that'll sticker longer than words that go in one ear and out the other.

And many mornings, these notes are my therapy session. It's my exercise in reminding myself that I have come a long way in seven years. I should be proud of myself. I should forgive myself.

When I was younger, I thought I was smarter than everyone else around me. I was overcompensating for the moments I was told I was stupid in high school. However, there will ALWAYS be someone smarter.

I write because I want to be better every day.

I write because I want my kids to be better than me.

I write because I want to be a better dad.
