“My job is to make sure that we represent the student body in the truest sense, being responsive when we have to be and proactive when we have to be.”

Gabriel Borbon, ‘23, is Marist's newest Student Body President who spoke at the ceremony for President Kevin Weinman's inauguration. Borbon expressed excitement for the President’s inauguration ceremony, saying, “I’ve been waiting for a bit to be honest, I think Kevin is great at what he does, and with him at the helm steering the ship, it looks like Marist is on a great path for the years to come.”

When asked about working with President Weinman, Borbon said, “I’ve met President Weinman quite a few times, he’s come to our summer meetings, our SGA meetings; he’s a really nice and honest person, he genuinely does care about the students. He donated a large lump sum of money to help make it equitable for disadvantaged students. He talks the talk and he’s able to back it up with his actions, I think that’s awesome, not many people do that.”

Borbon also expressed how excited he is for potential projects with the newly-inaugurated president; “You know, I think together we can do a lot, he’s been very responsive to student concerns. We even want to do a carnival and ask him if he wants to participate and be in a dunk tank! In the initiative sense, we wanna follow the path of the initiative we had last year and we are hopefully going to have the booster club approved in order to create a sense of Marist community.”

When asked if there was anything he wanted Marist students to know about or to get involved in, Borbon wanted to bring awareness to the SGA elections that are happening soon. “Elections are coming up soon, be sure to go ahead and give the elections commissioner an email to get involved. The main goal is to increase participation this year!”
