#1 Carrigan shares her inspirational personal story of fostering puppies found in her backyard. She addresses ways to combat the issue of animal abandonment and shares how countless animals are left to fend for themselves. She talks about the physical and psychological toll on them and how the community can fight animal abandonment through collaboration, pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and providing the emotional support these animals desperately need.

#2 Carrigan discusses how imperative educating our community about responsible pet ownership is. She provides practical tips on how individuals can contribute to becoming a crucial part of the solution. Community members can significantly impact by volunteering at shelters, fostering animals, or organizing adoption events.

#3 In addition, Carrigan shares that sustainable solutions like spaying and neutering programs significantly reduce the population of stray animals. Additionally, advocating for stricter legislation and enforcement against animal abandonment is crucial for lasting change.

Carrigan Barnes is a 10-year-old fifth grader who attends Mid-South Gifted Academy. Carrigan loves violin, dance class (ballet, tap, jazz, West African), STEM classes, Robotics Club, and theater. Being a Big Sister, and fighting for the rights of others and herself is a priority. In April of 2023, she, along with her siblings, found a dog in there who had given birth to 8 puppies. Carrigan immediately knew that it was her responsibility to help. This incident changed her life and has inspired her to continue to help, to educate others, and to work to become a veterinarian for her future career. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
