This is a technique called gaussian splatting and it lets you get hyperrealistic 3D scans from just a quick phone video

(btw the app is free)

ANDROID USERS
- Use the web app (lumalabs.ai) on Android. Upload footage and screen record the result in the browser

GETTING FEATURED

TIPS
- You can use any phone to capture this. You don’t need the latest iPhone or LiDAR. Make sure to use the default camera (not the wide angle or cinematic mode)
- The app will choose a camera path loosely based on the camera path you capture. In my example, I wanted a straight path, so I captured in that path. But if you wanted to orbit around your subject for example, you could capture an orbiting path
- It’s easier to shoot static subjects (objects, rooms, buildings) - but if you capture a person, have that person stay perfectly still. Easier when sitting down
